Mobile device management (MDM)

Mobile device management (MDM) is the term for the administration of mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablet computers, laptops and desktop computers. MDM is a way to ensure employees stay productive and do not breach corporate policies. Many organizations control activities of their employees using MDM products/services. MDM primarily deals with corporate data segregation, securing emails, securing corporate documents on devices, enforcing corporate policies, integrating and managing mobile devices including laptops and handhelds of various categories. MDM implementations may be either on-premises or cloud-based. As KarantisCare is delivered via a mobile application, MDM is key to our security policies. Devices used for application access are secured via a license key configured to a unique id and password. MDM tools can be used to install and remove KarantisCare from applicable devices.

Our password policy is based on a Minimum Password Length of 8 characters with a mix of alphanumeric and special characters. Passwords will be flagged as weak, average or strong when created – for further action by the user. They should not consist of well-known or publicly posted identification information. Names, usernames such as the MyID, and ID numbers such as the 81x or UGAID number are all examples of well know identification information that should not be used as a password. The KarantisCare application has an idle time lockout of 5 minutes, i.e. if the application isn’t used within 5 minutes seconds the user will need to log back into the application.

Mobile device storage is a key security concern and no information within the KarantisCare application is stored on the mobile device either by the Carer or Family Member. All accessed data is only viewed from the mobile device, all newly created care reports are filed into our cloud database and not stored on the mobile device.

Updating care information via the mobile device, either by the carer or family member, is actioned by the mobile device redirecting you to a secure web portal and logging into this portal from the mobile device. Once you have updated the required information you log out of the secure web portal and log back into the KarantisCare application on your mobile device. Again, this new information is only viewed on the mobile device it isn’t stored on the mobile device.
